Wavemaker has named Shipra Roy as its new Global Chief People, Inclusion and Culture Officer alongside Helen Price as Global Chief Investment Officer. Both will be based in London and join CEO Toby Jenner’s global leadership team.

Shipra, who comes to Wavemaker from a position as Chief People Officer for McCann UK and Europe, will oversee all aspects of the people function to ensure that Wavemaker continues to attract the best talent and creates great careers regardless of level, role or geography in the organisation that spans 7,000 people across 88 markets. She replaces James Edgar who left the agency in August.

Helen joins Wavemaker from IPG Mediabrands where she was Head of Global Accountability and Investment. At Wavemaker her focus will be on creating value for clients and commercial opportunities for the agency. She replaces Keith Tiley who will be retiring at the end of the year. In addition, Wavemaker has promoted Global Managing Partner Simon Broderick to Global Head of Investment.

International advocacy organization, Global Citizen, in partnership with Wizcraft recently announced Mumbai, India will be represented in Global Citizen Live’s broadcast. The once-in-a-generation day of global unity will call on world leaders, philanthropists, and corporations to defend the planet and defeat poverty to take action on climate change, famine, and advance vaccine equity.

This year, all the action and live performances will be on TV & OTT. The festival will be broadcast on the television channels of ZEE and the audience can also catch the planet’s most concerned artists and greatest performers on ZEE’s digital entertainment platform ZEE5 in India and across the globe. With Mumbai being added on the list of Global Citizen Live destinations, viewers will get to see their favourite artists Amit Trivedi, Ajay-Atul, Badshah & Tanishk Bagchi perform LIVE along with appearances by Sachin Tendulkar, Madhuri Dixit & Varun Dhawan who have also come on board to support the Global Citizen Live campaign, among others.

Viacom18 today announced the appointment of Vipul Nagar as Business Head - Colors Gujarati. He will be responsible for managing the overall business and operations for Colors Gujarati and Colors Gujarati Cinema, and will be reporting to Rajesh Iyer, Head - Regional Entertainment (Bangla, Odia, Tamil and Gujrati Clusters), Viacom18.

Vipul comes with over 20 years of industry experience, bringing in extensive knowledge and understanding of the Gujarati content ecosystem, having led programming for Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat & Rajkot at Radio Mirchi. He last served as Senior Vice President & National Solutions Director for Mirchi Brewery.

Speaking about the appointment, Rajesh Iyer, Head - Regional Entertainment (Bangla, Odia, Tamil and Gujarati Clusters), Viacom18 said, “Gujarat has a vibrant culture which is reflected in the variety of its entertainment landscape. He was also awarded with Safdar Hashmi National Award from UP Sangeet Natak Academy, for his contribution in theatre.

The films which are part of this deal are in various stages of production and are expected to release over the next 18- 24 months. With Viacom18’s leading broadcast channels at play, the network has also acquired satellite rights for these films.

Combined Company Would be a Market Leader Across Genres & Languages in Linear and Digital Distribution

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (ZEEL) today announced that they have entered into an exclusive, non-binding Term Sheet to combine both companies’ linear networks, digital assets, production operations and program libraries.

The non-binding Term Sheet provides an exclusive negotiation period of 90 days during which ZEEL and SPNI will conduct mutual diligence and negotiate definitive, binding agreements. The combined company would be a publicly listed company in India and be better positioned to lead the consumer transition from traditional pay TV into the digital future.

The merger of ZEEL and SPNI would bring together two leading Indian media network businesses, benefitting consumers throughout India across content genres, from film to sports. The combined company is expected to benefit all stakeholders given strong synergies between ZEEL and SPNI.

Under the terms of the non-binding Term Sheet, Sony Pictures Entertainment, the parent company of SPNI, would invest growth capital so that SPNI has a cash balance of approximately USD $1.575 billion at closing for use to enhance the combined company’s digital platforms across technology and content, ability to bid for broadcasting rights in the fast-growing sports landscape and pursue other growth opportunities.

Sony Pictures Entertainment would hold a majority stake in the combined company. Current ZEEL Managing Director & CEO Punit Goenka is to lead the combined company. The combined company’s board of directors would include directors nominated by Sony Group and result in Sony Group having the right to nominate the majority of the board members.

It is anticipated that a final transaction would be subject to completion of customary due diligence, negotiation, and execution of definitive binding agreements, and required corporate, regulatory and third-party approvals, including ZEEL shareholder vote.
