Indian Start-Up, Shuttl, Wins Global Recognition for Creating a Sustainable Urban Mobility Solution

Gurgaon - based Shuttl was declared winner of the prestigious Ashden Award (https://www.ashden.org/winners/shuttl) in the Sustainable Transport and Mobility category.

The award was presented to Shuttl on Thursday, 14 June at the Royal Geographical Society in London, United Kingdom.

Co-founder of Shuttl, Amit Singh and Policy Advocacy Lead, Vishwas Singh, had travelled to London to attend the award ceremony and receive the award on behalf of all Shuttl’s employees, Shuttlrs and Captains [bus owners and drivers on Shuttl’s platform]. The key note address at the Award Ceremony was given by Christiana Figueres – an international activist who has worked on the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and is currently the Convenor of Mission 2020, a Climate Leader at the World Bank and Vice-Chair of the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy. Her focus is on helping cities in the alliance to develop cutting edge solutions to the challenges of climate finance.

Speaking on this occasion in London, Co-founder, Amit Singh stated, “We deeply admire the work Ashden is doing in the field of sustainable energy and that is why this award is very meaningful to us. Shuttl is building a transport solution to solve two major challenges faced by people in cities everywhere - painful commute and severe congestion. Our solution reduces congestion and an individual’s carbon-footprint…this is what sustainable means to Shuttl”

Ashden is a UK- based advocacy group driven by the philosophy that sustainable energy can have a transformative impact on individuals and societies worldwide. The annual Ashden Awards, established in 2001, uncover and reward the most exciting sustainable energy pioneers in the UK and developing world, who are leading the way to a thriving low-carbon future. The awards are supported by Department for International Development, United Kingdom’s Development Agency. Previous winners have come from across the globe and have received international recognition for their work. This year 4 winners from UK and 10 winners from around the world, including Shuttl, have been awarded this prestigious award. The Ashden Awards are globally recognised as a mark of excellence in the field of green energy.

Earlier this year, Shuttl won two awards which also recognized Shuttl’s innovation and contribution in sustainable urban mobility. On 4th April, World Research Institute (WRI) announced Shuttl as the winner of the 2018 ConnectKaro Awards. On April 12th, Shuttl received Urban Innovation Award at the 2018 "Happy Cities Summit” in Amaravati, AP. The Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) hosted the summit. As the winner, Shuttl signed an MOU with APCRDA to run a pilot in the region and through mutual cooperation expand people friendly mobility solutions which have the potential to impact 3.5 million inhabitants by 2050.
